The beautiful reds, oranges, yellows, and deep greens make for the perfect fall scenery in Maryland. So, grab some pumpkin spice coffee, put on your hiking boots, and hit the trails.
Here are some perfect places to take in the fall colors and stay active this season:
LOCH RAVEN TRAILS
Located in the greater Baltimore County, Loch Raven Trails and the Reservoir are in pristine condition with an array of animals, plants and more. No matter your hiking experience, there are easy, moderate, and challenging level hikes. You’ll be sure to feel emersed in the fall season at Loch Raven Trails!
SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN
With an elevation of 1,282 feet, Sugarloaf Mountain is covered in red and white oaks, black gums, and hemlock trees. Your eyes will be entranced by hundreds of wildflowers at this registered National Landmark. About an hour from Luminary at One Light, Sugarloaf Mountain provides a full day of hiking, fun, and foliage.
ROCKS STATES PARK
Catch some views and maybe some fish at Rocks States Park in Hartford County. Fish, hike, and pack a picnic to enjoy a full day of fall festivities at this stunning state park. The Nature Exploration Area, complete with a bird nest, stump jumps and balancing logs, is the perfect place to let loose.
PATAPSCO VALLEY STATE PARK
Totaling a whopping 16,043 acres, Patapsco Valley State Park is bound to get you in the fall mood. Known nationally for its beauty and trail scenery, you can stick to a hike only trail or head to a multi-use trail. Patapsco Valley State Park wants you to reconnect with nature and to take in every opportunity to partake in the fall season.
ANNAPOLIS ROCK
This popular hike is not just meant for warmer months… starting at the Baltimore National Pike (Route 40) Trailhead, it is just shy of 3 miles to reach Annapolis Rock. Carrying on a bit further, you will reach Washington Monument State Park. Landmarks and monuments provide the perfect scenery, and break if you are tired, at Annapolis Rock.
