If so, it sounds like it might be time for you to plan a camping trip! Now is the perfect time to pack your bags and go camping because June is National Camping Month.
Observed since the 1970’s, National Camping Month is a time to bond with your friends and family through a shared night on a campsite. Be sure to plan ahead for your camping trip and bring plenty of fresh water, a first aid kit, non-perishable food, sunblock, and other essentials! Hang out on the campsite, or go out to one of the local wineries or breweries surrounding the area to enjoy a night of music and delicious food. There are also plenty of hiking trails located near this campsite!
In approximately 3 hours, you’ll reach the famous Assateague Island. This destination has numerous camping sites run by either the National Park Service or the Maryland Park Service. You can either set up your camp oceanside or bayside if you wish to backpack the island. Be sure to make a reservation and plan ahead as the barrier island habitat is harsh if you lack proper preparation. At Assateague Island, you can even camp with the horses!
Plan your visit to the beautiful Catoctin Mountain Park! In about 1 hour 10 minutes, you’ll reach this scenic National Park. Explore this destination’s hiking trails, try your hand at fishing, and end your day at one of the picnic areas. Plan your trip in advance, as reservations are required for overnight stays.
Located on the Chesapeake Bay in Rock Hall, MD, and about a 2 hour drive from Luminary at One Light, Bay Shore Campground is one of the best camping sites in the state.
