Travel back in time with a trip to Lancaster, PA. This town is full of old-fashioned charm, from buggy rides to antique shops. Don’t miss the Sunflower Festival at Cherry Crest Adventure for a stunning photo op! There are plenty of places to stay, whether you’re looking for a cozy farm retreat or a luxe spa experience.
Located in Virginia just outside of DC, Loudon County is the wine country of the East Coast. Over 50 wineries and tasting rooms make this the perfect destination for any vino-loving friend group. In between vineyards, there’s plenty to see including live music, art galleries, and historic sites.
2.5 hours from Baltimore
Richmond, VA is an underrated gem, but it’s about to be the next big thing—CNN Travel just awarded it as the #1 town in America to visit in 2024. One of the reasons it won this honor is the incredible food scene, with tons of cuisines from West African to Southern. Richmond is even home to the first-ever “mimosa trail,” featuring 40+ bars and restaurants.
If an ice cream cone on the boardwalk is more your vibe, you’ll want to go to Rehoboth, DE. It’s one of Delaware’s most popular destinations for a reason, with a gorgeous beach and mile-long boardwalk. When you need a break from the sun, there are plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining.
3 hours from Baltimore
Right down the coast is Ocean City, MD. If you’re looking for a slightly more active LDW itinerary, this is a great place to go. You can grab a bike and ride along the boardwalk or rent a paddleboard and soak in the sights. There are also golf courses, volleyball nets, and plenty of scenic running routes.
Last but not least on our list of LDW recommendations: Cape May, NJ. This charming seaside town has quaint bed and breakfasts, elegant Victorian architecture and, of course, miles of beautiful beaches. Plus, they’re hosting many live music events for Labor Day weekend.
